Bonus Assignment #1 -Canadian Budget

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, put forward a comprehensive budget plan to start economic growth, restore confidence and support Canadians and their families during this global recession. The economic plan of 2009 will be help Canadian families and companies deal with short-term challenges.

This is how the 33-billion stimulus package is going to be spent.

They are spending 12 million dollars for roads, bridges, broadband Internet access, electronic health records, laboratories and border crossings across the country. This will help support economic growth and employment.

They are spending $7.8 billion to build quality housing, stimulate construction and enhance energy efficiency. This includes a renovation tax credit which is providing 4.6 million families each with 1,350.

The action plan is going to support businesses, communities and alt least 90 % of the Canadians affected by the economic downturn.

This is only what Jim Flaherty(conservative) thinks about the economic action plan. Since there is a minority government all the parties have to agree. These are some of the things they can consider before stimulating the economic action plan:

-Canada budget sees $85 billion deficit over 5 years
-could we spend the Canadian budget in a different way
-do we need more infrastructure, targeted loans, and tax cuts
-how badly do communities and traditional industries need our support
-the budget suggests that there could be economic opportunities in the North

Michael Ignatieff (liberal leader) agreed to the contents of the stimulus package
The budget, with the amendment from the liberals, could pass next week!

Assignment 5-Early Canadian Settlers

The misjudgment by Jacques Cartier led to the European settlement in Canada. It was 1534 when the development of this country began.

The early Canadian settlers are acknowledged for establishing the base of Canada. Many of us still wonder how they did it. Even though there are so many items protecting us from the cold, we can barely tolerate the weather. If humans today can't stand the cold temperatures, then it would have been nearly impossible to do it 100 years ago. Therefore, we might as well consider the Early Canadians our heroes.

If the Early settlers wanted to live, they would have to work. Obtaining shelter, food and clothing were their three biggest challenges. Some would say it's in comparison to winning the 649 lottery. Since there were many nearby forests, settlers would have a lifetime-supply of lumber. With the wood, they had built log houses. If there were any cracks they would fill it with lime or sand to provide better warmth in the winter. Some settlers did the outside labour in the summer, but most had to do it in the cold harsh weather when they arrived.

The one and most important essential part of life is food. Settlers would fish, hunt and grow vegetables on their tiny strips of land. Early Canadian settlers would rely on animals to provide them food and clothes. They would do anything to feed their young, starving family. Canadian settlers would have to gather enough food to last them the whole winter. This process could somewhat be related to hibernation.

It is imperative that you have proper clothing in cold temperatures. Even a sweater would be risky to wear. Since the settlers did not have any scarves or snow hats their skin would get exposed to the cold. A hundred years ago men used to wear jackets made of moose or deer skin. They also used to wear pants held up by a leather belt. Ladies would wear dresses made out of wool. Knit stockings were attached to provide more warmth. Early settlers would also make gloves and boots out of leather. This is how the Early Canadian settlers managed to live in the cold, cruel weather.

I will now explain why the settlers chose to stay in Canada.

- One hundred years ago countries would be governed by strict humans, whereas Canada was free

-there was more availability of merchandise and farm land

-Canada would accommodate men without persuading them to join the army

-Canada was clean and pollution-free

- Unlike other countries it wasn't overcrowded

Canada was, and still is the perfect place to become prosperous at something

Moving on to my personal story.
My family originates from India, so traveling half way across the world was a big difference.
My grandfather had moved to Canada to do his PHD and to find a good job. Soon the family began to expand and here I found myself, in the country's capital. It took us a few years to adapt to the cold weather because in India you would never find such temperatures. To protect us from the cold we wear mittens, boots, a winter coat, pants, a hat and scarf. Both of my sisters and parents hate the cold. I'm the only one in the family who doesn't mind the chilly weather. My family and I try to limit the number of times we go outside in the winter. I think life is still very pleasant, but to the Early Settlers life was like a barrier.

Here are 3 things I learned from this assignment:
-Immigrants have such a tough time dealing with the cold, disturbing weather(especially if coming from a country near the border)
-Early settlers had to go through many obstacles to help establish the country
-Canada has everything to offer and it is the perfect place to begin a new life

Assignment 4

I really enjoy reading my classmates blog entries!

One of the sites I visited was Tale's. He had many insightful and creative thoughts about the year 2109. Tale included this sentence in his entry, " In 100 years I think Canada will be along side the rest of the world on the planet Mars."
Check the blog out yourself http://historytalinhom.blogspot.com/

I had visited Firas's blog for my second part. He had quickly summarized his ideas into one paragraph. In his entry he included the following sentence, "Maybe it would be all futuristic with flying cars and all of that stuff."
Check it out yourself http://icansolvearubikscube123.blogspot.com/

For my last section I had visited Sabrina's blog. She included a lot of detail and precise information in her entry. Sabrina had mentioned, "After all, going from a population of 32,000,000 people is a big difference."

My Opinion of a Future Aspect

I've changed my entry a little bit... I feel somewhat fearful about technology but I also embrace it. It might make us so lazy that in the future we might not even walk. The reason why I do like it is because its always fun to have new devices. It makes the world more exciting and interesting.

Assignment 3

Hi, this is my response to Assignment 3.

The development of Canada has significantly increased over the past centuries. The urbanization of Canada, introduced last century, has made everything easy for us. I predict that in 2109, we will be relying on technology to do everything for us. Nobody is willing to do the work and this is having many negative impacts on Earth. Since the past century we have been able to develop so much. This includes all the roads, buildings, factories, shops, companies and houses. Though, if we want to preserve Earth in a good condition 100 years from now, there are many changes to be made.

Here are some of my predictions for next 100 years...

-we might come across some crucial impacts which could severely act upon our lives: earthquakes or maybe even tsunamis

-we also might get our first black woman to be the Prime Minister of Canada

-In 100 years schools will be teaching differently

-there might also be robots taking over our jobs

-there might be new ways to travel instead of cars

-maybe we will finally see how global warming will greatly impact us

-we might discover a cure for cancer

-all the continents might merge together forming Pangaea once again

-a meteor might crash down in the next 100 years

There are also many good things that we might experience in the next hundred years. There will be new devices and technologies making our life even more appealing. We can already see some development of the futuristic devices. 2109 will be full of mysteries. Almost everything you can imagine will change. One hundred years is a long period of time, who knows what can happen?
